Kelso Lawyers sees the law through the eyes of a child abuse survivor. Our firm was established by Peter Kelso, a former State ward who experienced physical and emotional abuse at the hands of his foster parents. It is Peter’s experience that has shaped our firm and why we view child abuse cases differently to other lawyers.
Over the past 30 years, we have represented hundreds of survivors across Australia. We understand the role the law can play in helping survivors to heal, and approach each case with care and compassion.
We have represented child abuse survivors against churches, religious organisations, charities, state governments and other institutions.
Whether it be supporting survivors to give evidence at the Child Abuse Royal Commission or pursuing a compensation claim against an institution, we are always in the survivors’ corner. We know this area of the law inside-out and will look at all possible avenues to achieve justice for our clients
Kelso Lawyers’ expertise covers all areas of child abuse law, including:
- Supporting clients to give evidence at Royal Commission into Child Abuse public hearings
- Clergy and Institutional Abuse Claims
- Victims Support Reassessment
- Advocacy for Policy and Law Reform
This work has become my purpose in life. I am passionate about it. I know that when I take my last breath, I will have helped thousands of people to achieve what they needed, in order to start healing. Peter Kelso
We appreciate that survivors often want more than just financial compensation for their treatment as children. We work with our clients to secure apologies and lobby for change in areas such as a national redress scheme, and the removal of the limitation period for all child abuse claims in NSW.
