The average payment is under $100,000. You can make an application any time between now and 30 June 2027.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be eligible, you must have experienced sexual abuse as a child within an <a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/our-work\/institutions\/\">offending institution<\/a> that has elected to participate in the scheme. Participation is not mandatory, and the NRS cannot force unwilling institutions to participate. Many notorious institutions have joined the scheme, including the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/institutions\/catholic-church\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Catholic Church<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/institutions\/royal-commission-newcastle-anglican-church\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anglican Church<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/institutions\/salvation-army\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Salvation Army<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/institutions\/christian-brothers\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christian Brothers<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/kelsolawyers.com\/au\/scouts\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Scouts Australia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and all State and Territory Governments.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18dae71 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"18dae71\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Why you need legal advice<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-da99f8c elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"da99f8c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Though often quicker and easier than civil litigation, the National Redress Scheme has a very significant catch.\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In exchange for accepting the amount awarded by the NRS, you must sign away all legal rights to pursue the offending institution for compensation in the future. In short, once you accept an NRS payment, all other avenues of compensation are closed.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may be able to secure a significantly larger financial outcome via alternative avenues to the NRS, such as making a civil claim. However, if you have already accepted an NRS outcome, that option has been extinguished forever.
