William Wade<\/span><\/a> has <\/span>avoided prison time<\/span><\/a> after admitting to covering up child sexual abuse and lying to police. Wade recognised his \u201creprehensible\u201d failure to act, leading to \u201cterrible consequences\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wade had information about the child abuse that occurred at <\/span>Marist Brothers<\/span><\/a> schools in the 1970s but did not tell police during an investigation in 2014. Wade spent time in jail in 2017 for abusing two schoolboys.<\/span><\/p>\n

The 84-year-old was given four months imprisonment to be served in the community. He was charged under section 316 of the Crimes Act which states it is an offense to conceal a serious indictable offense.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

However, this law was made in 1990. Judge Michael Adams sentenced Wade based on the criminality of the offenses at the time (2014) rather than when the initial child abuse complaints were made (the 1970s).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt seems obvious that had the offender done his duty by his students for whom he was responsible at the time they made their complaints, the further sexual abuse of other victims may have been prevented,\u201d Judge Adams said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHis inaction and silence thus contributed to terrible consequences. His failure to take action, however reprehensible at the time, <\/span>was not then a criminal offense,<\/span><\/a> and he has not been charged with that failure.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Wade worked at Marist Brothers schools in Canberra, Kogarah, Newcastle, and Sydney. He worked alongside paedophile priest, <\/span>Brother Dominic<\/span><\/a> and Brother Romuald.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One survivor reported Dominic and Romuald to Wade at the time, but Wade told the child \u201c<\/span>these things don’t happen here, you can’t make up stories like that<\/span><\/a>\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cardinal George Pell has returned to the Vatican after acquittal on child abuse charges<\/b><\/h2>\n

Cardinal George Pell returned to the Vatican<\/span><\/a> on September 29th 2020 after being jailed and then acquitted on child sexual abuse charges.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pell was seen wearing a COVID\u00a0 face mask at Rome\u2019s Fiumicino airport but didn\u2019t speak to the journalists who were waiting for him.<\/p>\n

Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni said there is <\/span>no meeting planned between Pell and Pope Francis<\/span><\/a>. The Pope is dealing with a financial scandal in the Vatican, but Vatican experts have said a reunion between Pope Francis and Pell is \u201ca given\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe will meet Francis. He\u2019ll do it as a free man,\u201d La Repubblica said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt will be Pell\u2019s chance for a redress, after many in the Vatican rejoiced at his removal.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pell is unlikely to get his job back in the Vatican, but \u201c<\/span>he will ask to have his honour restored<\/span><\/a>\u201d, Vatican expert Francesco Antonio Grana said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pell\u2019s return to the Vatican received <\/span>mass criticism online<\/span><\/a> as Australian citizens questioned why the government gave Pell an exemption to travel from Sydney to Rome in the middle of COVID-19.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Home Affairs Department said there were six categories of people who were exempt from the travel ban and do not need to seek permission to leave Australia. This includes people \u201ctraveling on official government business\u201d. Pell is said to be traveling for \u201cofficial Vatican government business\u201d and did not need an exemption.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

South Australian father jailed for \u201chorrific\u201d abuse of sister and daughters<\/b><\/h2>\n

A South Australian father has been jailed for the repeat sexual abuse of his sister and his two daughters. The man was described as \u201cvery religious\u201d and one of his daughters said their home was like \u201ca cult\u201d. She realised this after moving out in her teens.<\/span><\/p>\n

The man started <\/span>abusing his sister in 1978<\/span><\/a> when she was five-years-old. He was 20-years-old at the time. He sexually abused his sister, shot pellets from a slug gun at her dolls, and <\/span>cut open a guinea pig to show her what would happen if she told their parents about the abuse<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

He also allowed his friends to abuse her on a regular basis.<\/span><\/p>\n

The abuse stopped when she was 12-years-old and the man met his new wife. He then turned his attention to his two daughters. One was four-years-old and the other was nine-years-old.<\/span><\/p>\n

The abuse lasted a decade.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cOn one occasion you told [your daughter] that <\/span>God had made her to be like a wife for you<\/span><\/a>,\u201d Judge Joanne Tracey said to the man in Adelaide District Court.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cYour behaviour towards each child was manipulative, cruel and malevolent. It is hard to imagine how terrifying, frightening and confused each of those little girls would have been.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cEach very bravely, eloquently and impressively has described the effect of your abuse. It was clear from what each said that, despite you, they are strong, focused and determined to leave you behind and to be better than you.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The man was found guilty of three counts of indecent assault, two counts of gross indecency, inciting or procuring an act of gross indecency, and unlawful sexual intercourse. He was sentenced to 20 years in jail with a non-parole period of 16 years.<\/span><\/p>\n
