Former Hunter accountant and churchgoer Donald Victor Greenaway is a serial child sex offender. His crimes stretch back to the 1950’s.
He was convicted in 2016 of 66 child sex charges against 19 boys from the 1960’s to 1990’s.
Greenaway used his position of power in his local baptist church as a scripture and Sunday school teacher to access young boys.
Even though Greenaway was convicted in 1970 of a child sex offence, somehow the Baptist Church allowed this man to continue teaching young children.
He raped boys as young as five.
Greenaway showed young children gruesome pornographic images and films including bestiality.
He raped young boys in his swimming pool after luring them to his home. Greenaway admitted adding this pool and other recreational features to his houses to help entice more young boys to his home.
In 1999 Greenaway was jailed after raping a boy between 5-11 years old in the late 1970’s-1980’s. Greenaway said the offences were “our secret” and told the child his parents would be angry if he ever spoke of the incident.
Greenaway was sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for the 66 child sex cases. The crimes included sexual assault, buggery, indecent assault and soliciting boys to commit acts of indecency.
Some of his victims were residents of the former Woodlands Boys Home – where Greenaway volunteered.
The one victim who gave an impact statement at Greenaway’s hearing told the court of his perpetual fear of public toilets – as a result of continued abuse perpetrated by Greenaway in public toilets.
Judge Ellis told Greenaway upon sentencing “You will never, ever again have access to young boys. You will die in jail.”
Greenaway will die in prison – he will be first eligible for parole in 2031, aged 100.
Greenaway is just one of the many monsters in positions of power within Australian institutions found guilty of sexually abusing young children.
