Disgraced paedophile and former Anglican Dean of Newcastle Graeme Lawrence will be released on parole next week.
Lawrence was convicted of the 1991 sexual assault of a minor in 2019 and sentenced to a maximum of eight years in prison, with a non-parole period of four and a half years.
Kelso Lawyers has previously written about Lawrence’s crimes, including his role in covering up offences by other Anglican paedophile offenders. Like many, we feel that criminal sentences for child sex offences often fail to match the seriousness of the crimes. That is certainly the case with Lawrence.
Conditions of Lawrence’s parole include not being in the company of a person under the age of 16 without an accompanying adult, 24-hour electronic monitoring and a ban from entering premises owned by the Anglican Diocese of Newcastle.
Kelso Lawyers represents victims of abuse all over Australia, but as a Newcastle based firm, we are also proud of our long history of helping local victims in the Newcastle, Hunter and Central Coast regions to seek justice.
