Clergy abuse, 2015

In June 2014, I gave evidence to the public hearing of the Royal Commission into Child Abuse at Christian Brother institutions. At the hearing it was suggested that I contact Kelso Lawyers to get advice on how to proceed on the issue of compensation.

On speaking to Peter Kelso, he explained his experience over many years of assisting clients in this very sensitive area and of his own personal experience growing up under extreme conditions. This gave me the confidence to entrust Kelsos with this very sensitive and sad side of my life that had consumed me since the age of seven.

Peter referred my case to Jodie Scanlon as Jodie was very experienced and fully involved in all aspects of the Royal Commission and was currently handling four clients in my situation.

Over a period of months from first contact with Jodie, (after numerous phone calls, emails and letters) Jodie had organised a meeting with the CEO for Professional Standards and the solicitor for the Brothers.

At this meeting a satisfactory compensation figure was offered, all due to months of dedicated work from Peter and Jodie. The journey was made very positive due to Jodie’s sensitive yet very professional manner.

My brother who was also abused was assisted by Peter and Jodie with the same positive results.

We would both wish to thank Peter and Jodie and would recommend with total conviction that Kelso Lawyers be the ones to entrust to assist in your time of need.
